Program

Pages of Promise is a non-profit organization that collects textbooks and other educational reading materials that are then shipped to schools in nearly half the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa.  Our primary collection focus is on used college texts.  Every year, students throw away valuable textbooks because they are either replaced with newer editions or the books are simply taking up too much room.  Every book that is thrown away or left to sit on a shelf is a treasured resource being wasted. 

Pages of Promise, Inc. is based at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.  As our organization is expanding, we hope to soon include every major college and university in the Midwest in our textbook collection efforts.  Currently, we are collecting at four universities and colleges in Iowa and Minnesota.  If you are interested in starting a Pages of Promise book drive at your college or university, please contact us.

Book collections are held at the end of each semester.  Although each university has their own system of collection, most distribute boxes to central locations around campus, in major buildings and common student areas.  Check your university link to find collection box locations on your campus.  Once books are collected, they are boxed and transported to Books For Africa in St. Paul, MN.  Books for Africa sorts and packages the books and eventually ships them to countries in Africa where they are then distributed to schools and libraries.
